Ernesto Samper Pizano
Former President of ColombiaErnesto Samper Pizano was born in Bogotá on August 3, 1950. Between 1994 and 1998 he was president of Colombia. Prior to becoming President of the Republic, he was a senator, a Bogotá councilman and a legislator for the Cundinamarca department of Colombia. A graduate of the “Pontificia Universidad Javeriana”, he received degrees in economics and law. During his presidency he promoted a development plan known as the “Salto Social” (Social Leap). In 2014, he was elected Secretary General of UNASUR, where he remained until 2017. Currently, he leads a movement to build an agenda that would bring together the Ibero-American nations through Corporate Scenarios. He also works in issues related to human rights, international humanitarian rights and the peace process in Colombia through the “Corporación Vivamos Humanos” (Human Experience Corporation).
